Professional Carpet Installation
Carpet that was installed correctly looks better, lasts longer, and stays under warranty. Ajax Carpet Service has been installing carpet across Northwest Indiana since 1978, and our installers use power stretchers and proper seam technique — the same approach manufacturers require for their wear warranties to apply.
What proper installation actually looks like
Most premature carpet failures we see during cleaning visits were caused by sloppy original installation. The right way starts before the carpet arrives: measure twice, plan seams so they fall in low-traffic areas and run with the light, inspect the subfloor for moisture and squeaks, and replace any tack strip that is rusty or splintered. New pad goes down with seams offset from where the carpet seams will land. Then the carpet itself is power-stretched wall to wall, seams are heat-bonded with quality tape, and edges are tucked into baseboards or transition strips with clean cuts.
Old carpet, haul-away, and floor prep
We pull up the existing carpet and pad, vacuum the bare subfloor, scrape stuck adhesive, fix squeaks where we can reach them, and haul everything away. If the subfloor has water damage or rotted plywood we will tell you before installing over it — covering a bad subfloor with new carpet is a guaranteed callback for someone, and we'd rather solve it once. Same with stair work: stairs require their own technique (waterfall vs upholstered) and we'll walk through the options.
Carpet you didn't buy from us, too
We install carpet from major manufacturers including carpet you purchased elsewhere. We will tell you honestly whether the product you picked will hold up in the room you're putting it in — fiber type, twist level, and density matter more than the showroom photo. After 45 years our installers have seen what wears and what doesn't, and that experience is part of what you're hiring.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you remove the old carpet?
Yes. Old carpet and pad removal, plus haul-away of the debris, is included unless we agree otherwise in writing.
How long does a typical install take?
Most single-family homes are a one-day install. Larger homes and stair-heavy installs may take two days. We confirm timeline at the in-home measure.
Will you install carpet I bought elsewhere?
Yes. We install carpet from any reputable source, and we will give you our honest read on whether the product is right for your room before we cut anything.
What about manufacturer warranties?
Carpet warranties almost always require professional installation with power stretching — which is what we do. Keep your receipt and the carpet brand info and your warranty is protected.
